Egyptian FM Underlines Unacceptability of Quran Desecration

IQNA – Egypt’s foreign minister criticized the growing trend of Islamophobia in the world and stressed that desecration of Islam’s Holy Book is totally unacceptable.

Addressing the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council on Tuesday, Sameh Hassan Shoukry highlighted the numerous challenges affecting the issue of human rights at the international arena.

He said these challenges have led to an increase in racist behaviors, hate crimes, Islamophobia, and desecration of Quran.

These challenges cannot be justified in any way and they undermine efforts for promotion of human rights in the world.

Egypt’s top diplomat urged UN Human Rights Council member states to avoid double standards regarding human rights, saying they should not target certain countries for political purposes and turn a blind eye to crimes committed by some others.

That way, the council can play a more effective role in confronting the challenges and preventing the political exploitation of the issue of human rights, he went on to say.

The 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council is underway in Geneva, Switzerland.
