Islamic Arts Festival Wraps Up in Sharjah

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 24th edition of the Sharjah Islamic Festival, which held in the UAE city under the slogan “Tadaroj” (“Gradation”), concluded.

Organized by the Department of Culture, it convened over a period of 40 days in different regions of Sharjah, with the participation of Emirati, Arab and international artists.

Muhammad Al Qasir, Director of Cultural Affairs, Director of the Islamic Arts Festival, said that the twenty-fourth edition was exceptional.

He added that the Emirati, Arab and international participation in the twenty-fourth edition has been able to translate the festival's slogan "gradations" with an exceptional artistic vision, which gave the viewer a large space to view artworks that varied between traditional and modern art, and sometimes, in merging both to present a modern vision in Islamic arts.

Muhammad Al Qasir continued by saying that Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival hosted more than 50 countries from around the world, over the past 24 years, with a lot of diversity, which enabled the Festival to recover forgotten aspects of this authentic art that dates back hundreds of years, such as architecture, decoration, jewelry, handicrafts represented in ceramics, textiles etc..

The twenty-fourth edition included 151 events and 284 artworks by 63 artists from 27 countries from around the world over a period of 40 days.

Artists participations included Arab countries such as Iraq, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Bahrain, Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait, and Syria… and from the West, including Spain, France, India, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Turkey, Denmark, Canada, Hong Kong and Germany.

The events included 49 exhibitions hosted by the Sharjah Art Museum, the House of Wisdom in Sharjah, Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, Al Majaz Waterfront, the Emirates Society for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Decoration, Khorfakkan Amphitheater in the Eastern Region, and other destinations in Sharjah.
