TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) described recent Quran burning incidents in Europe as moves that have Zionist roots.

Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour said that given its internal problems, the Zionist regime needs the Quran desecrations and acts of sacrilege.

A smart look at the recent Quran desecration incidents reveals that this trend is not the work of one individual or two but it has Zionist roots.

Such moves are aimed at fomenting Islamophobia in the world, Hojat-ol-Islam Imanipour added.

He also referred to the statement issued by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei about the acts of sacrilege and said ICRO has also taken steps, including writing a letter to world religious leaders for action against desecration of religious sanctities.

The official said that in this letter, drawing up a world document on rights of religions has been proposed.

In recent weeks, Quran desecrations in Sweden and Denmark with government permission and police protection have drawn widespread anger and condemnations from the Muslim world.

The Nordic countries allow the blasphemies to happen under the guise of the so-called freedom of speech despite wide condemnations from Muslim and non-Muslim states and even in the face of a UN Human Rights Council resolution adopted last month.
