TEHRAN (IQNA) – The director of a Qatari Quran TV announced the discontinuation of the TV channel’s programs.

Lack of Financial Support Causes Closure of Qatari Quran TV

Youssef al-Shaibani said the move was taken because the finical support for the network has ended, al-Sharaq news website reported.

The TV channel, named Dohat Al-Quran, has rejected an offer from an American Christian charity institute for support, he said.

Shaibani noted that after its inauguration in 2020, Dohat al-Quran TV received financial support from a charity society but it was discontinued after a year.

A donor then paid all broadcasting costs, which include the rent of the satellite, the rent for the channel’s headquarters and the salaries of employees, for another six months, he added.

Since then, the channel’s staff continued their activities without getting paid, only in the hope of being rewarded for serving the Book of God Almighty, he stated.

Shaibani said the rent of the channel’s headquarters was not paid during this period either and ultimately the decision was made for closing Dohat al-Quran TV.

According to him, the cost of the satellite rent was the main reason for the closure, as it amounts to about 50,000 Qatari riyals per month, out of 150,000 riyals in the full operational costs of the channel.

He regretted having to make the decision while the TV channel had gained popularity, attracting millions of viewers from across the Arab world.

Shaibani, had told Al-Sharq in 2020 that the non-profit channel has an annual cost of 1.5 million Qatari rials which is provided by a donor.

He had said Quran recitations of the channel are exclusive and recorded inside a studio as 90% of qaris are new and less-known. The channel was active and broadcast programs around the clock.
