Nabil Hamoud made the remark on Tuesday, December 3, while addressing the conference on Basij and Media in Mashhad.
He said Al-Manar that originated from the ideology of Hezbollah has now a lofty place in the Arab world as it seeks to defend the sacred values of Islam.
He noted that the network was officially launched in 1981 and turned into a satellite TV in 2000 with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Southern Lebanon.
Hamoud referred to the enmities against the network and said in 2003 Al-Manar was accused (by the West) of spreading terrorism.
“In 2005 Al-Manar was banned in the US and in 2006 (during the 33-day war) the network’s building (in Beirut) was razed to the ground.”
He said Israel has tried, in vain, to jam the network’s signals for a long time in order to prevent the reception of its programs in Muslim countries.
Hamoud went on to say that Al-Manar has 10 to 11 million viewers around the world, including many non-Shia and non-Muslim viewers.
