TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Radios and Televisions Union (IRTU) condemned US sanctions imposed on the union allegedly for interference in the US election.

In a statement on Friday, the IRTU described the sanction as illegal and a sign of the US administration’s proclivity for oppression and violating freedom of speech and freedom of conscience.

Those in power in Washington are facing a political crisis and trying to cover up their defeats and weather the crisis by accusing others of meddling the upcoming US election, the statement said.

It added that the IRTU is an independent non-governmental international institution that is not affiliated to any government and whose mission is promotion of the message of true Islam and defending the rights of the world’s oppressed.

The union also underlined its legitimate right to pursue the issue in related international organizations to remove the unjustified sanctions.

The US Treasury Department on Thursday announced sanctions against five entities, including the mic Radios and Televisions Union, over what it described as “attempts to influence” the country’s 2020 presidential election.
