Central Masjid hosted a fundraiser and collected £3,585 which has been spent on medical and food supplies which reached Pakistan on September 8 and 9. The Teesside goods will be given to those in need at relief camps in Sindh where they are being taken by soldiers and rescue workers.
The mosque members clubbed together to raise the cash with a collection, with families turning out to do their bit in a fundraising day on September 2.
Gohar Ihsan, chairman of Central Masjid, said: "We would like to thank all members of Central Masjid for their support and we are distributing the rations to those affected by the flooding in Sindh with the cooperation from the Pakistan Army.
It comes as Pakistani officials said it could take up to six months for deadly flood waters to recede in Muslim-majority country’s hardest-hit areas.
Floods caused by record monsoon rains and melting glaciers in Pakistan’s northern mountain regions have so far claimed the lives of more than 1,400 people, and affected an estimated 33 million more, washing away homes, roads, railways, livestock and crops.
Damages are now expected to total more than $30 billion -- triple that of an earlier estimate of around $10 billion.
