Ramadan Quran Competition for Visually-Impaired Held in Tanzania
The Aisha Sarwar Quran Foundation organized the contest with the participation of 68 visually-impaired boys and girls, the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization reported.
Winners were announced and awarded at a ceremony held with the participation of prominent clerics, representatives of Quranic institutes and a large number of people.
Also present were Iranian diplomat Hossein Alvandi and Cultural Attaché Morteza Pirani.
Winners were awarded cash prizes of up to 4 million Tanzanian shillings (1500 euro) as well as Quran copies in braille.
At the ceremony, the Iranian Cultural Center in Tanzania gifted 70 copies of the Holy Quran to the foundation.
Tanzania is a country in East Africa where Islam is the religion of about 35 percent of the population.
On the mainland, Muslim communities are concentrated in coastal areas, with some large Muslim majorities also in inland urban areas especially and along the former caravan routes. More than 99 percent of the population of the Zanzibar archipelago is Muslim.
