Dr Shariati’s House in Tehran
TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ali Shariati Mazinani, known as Dr Shariati, was born in 1933 in Kahak (a village in Mazinan a suburb of Sabzevar, in northeastern Iran) and died on June 18, 1977, in Southampton, Britain.
He was an Iranian writer, sociologist, religious researcher, and revolutionary and political activist and an ideologue of the Islamic Revolution. He regarded a return to true and revolutionary Shia Islam as a powerful means for materializing social justice.
Shariati is also known for his efforts to revive religion and tradition in the society and raising awareness about the Pahlavi regime’s oppression of the people.
He died at the age of 44 in Britain and was laid to rest near the holy shrine of Hazrat Zeinab (SA) in Damascus, Syria. His house in Tehran has been turned into a museum.
