Mosques in Moroccan Town to Receive Braille Copies of Quran
Tetouan is one of the two major ports of Morocco on the Mediterranean Sea.
According to Tanja24.com, an official with the city’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs department, said the move is aimed at helping the visually-impaired who want to read the Holy Book.
Abdul Hai Qalbazouri added that all the mosques in the city will soon have copies of the Quran in Braille.
He also said that in new mosques under construction in the city, efforts will be made to ensure they have proper handicap accessibility.
Braille is a writing system which enables the blind and partially-sighted people to read and write through touch.
It was invented by Louis Braille (1809-1852), a French educator a who was blind and became a teacher of the blind.
In recent years, the Holy Quran and many religious books have been printed in Braille to help visually-impaired Muslims read the texts with ease.
