TEHRAN (IQNA) – Muslims across New England, the US, have organized the region's first Muslim festival.

Festival to Celebrate New England Muslim Community

Muslim Fest will take place Sept. 25 in City Hall Plaza in Malden, Massachusetts.

Organizers say the festival will celebrate the diversity of the Muslim community and create a greater awareness of its cultural heritage.

Festival director Mohammad Shadid says the culture and image of New England Muslims has been "distorted by politicians and the terrorists who do not represent the faith."

Malden Mayor Gary Christenson says he's looking forward to the family event and sharing in rich cultural traditions.

The event features music, performances, poetry, a comedy show and a martial arts display, as well as children's activities and a traditional marketplace selling art, clothing and food.

Muslim Fest is free and open to the public.
